Ghaznin Gate

Introduction
Ghaznin Gate Agra Fort Ghazni Gate belonged to the tomb of Mahmud Ghaznavi, located in Afganistan. It is actually the door-set which was actually installed in tomb of Mahmud Ghaznavi in Ghazni. He died in 1030 AD. This gate was brought by the Britishers from Ghazni to Agra Fort, in year 1842. At that time the governor general was Ellenborough. In his proclamation, he described that this sandalwood gate actually belonged to Somnath temple of Gujarat which was ransacked and demolished by Mahmud Ghazni forces in year 1025 AD. and by tacking back it back to India, British forces have restored Indian pride. These gates were conveyed on a triumphul car, passing through the towns of Northern India and finally place in Agra fort. But in reality, it was a false claim made made by the governor to win the goodwill & sympathy of Indian people or as a sad reminder of the historic lies of the East India Company. This gate is actually made up of local Deodar wood available in Ghaznin. It is not of Sandalwood. Its carving work does not match with work of Somnath temple and it also contains carved Arabic inscriptions in upper part of gate. These evidence are enough to understand that it does not belong to Somnath temple of Gujarat.

The dimensions of the gate is 16.5 by 13.5 feet and weight is around half a ton. It is made up of geometrical, hexagonal and octagonal panels which have been fixed into the frame, without rivets. It is placed in an small compartment, at corner of Zenana courtyard, just before entering the Jahangiri Mahal, opposite to Anguri Bagh.
